Another day, another written note. I think I'm making progress. Slowly - but nonetheless progress.

It's hard to find your footing when there's a mountain of articles telling you “This is how you make your millions”. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a little bit, but tell me - aren't you sick of those pieces too? They're a dime a dozen on popular websites like Medium, to the point I scroll for about 3 seconds before I'm bored of the marketing and How-To’s.

I want to read stories and get to know the writers behind the words. Instead I find myself bombarded with the same article written six different ways by - it seems - only three different people. Every page is ‘perfectly’ curated to just a few people, just a few kinds of articles with meaningless word vomit.

Something’s missing.

I suppose that's what led me here to this page. To disrupt the flow. When the pandemic started and essential workers were the only ones out, my coworker listed off professions that didn't feel essential: musicians, writers, among others that have now slipped my mind.

I turned in shock: Who else would entertain us as we sat bored at home? Who would write all the things we read each day, if not for a writer?

In that moment I found a recharge in my desire to write. It’s an important role that has been overlooked. To be a writer means a lot of little things. Writer’s like to observe what’s going on in the world and use stories to express the thoughts that pop up in our head. We pay attention to the relationships in our lives and dive deep into “What if?” scenarios. When left to our own devices, we welcome silence as a way to delve into our reveries.

I’m still convinced with the notion that writing is a superpower.

Depending on who you ask, there’s going to be people who tell you there’s a right way and a wrong way to write. After surfing the internet for years, I can tell you that they’re lying to you. Everybody’s voice is different - so how is it that there’s a correct way to write?

Writing is like visual art in my eyes. There’s a proper way to draw a circle, but we forget there are multiple ways to achieve the same result.
